My name is John Cooper and I am the owner of Can Do Safety Ltd. I am a certified Construction Safety Officer, Construction Safety Specialist, Trade Safety Coordinator and Gold Seal Safety Coordinator.
I understand the importance of safety in the workplace as both a company owner and also as an employee.
My career in safety started years ago when I was a member of the safety committee at a local plywood plant.
I unfortunately suffered a workplace accident that has left me permanently partially disabled in both shoulders. It also left me with an in-depth knowledge of what an injured worker has to go through, emotionally, physically, socially and financially. My personal experience is what made me decide to become a safety professional, so that I may hopefully prevent other workers from going what I went through.
When I was able to return to the workforce I worked in Iqaluit, Nunavut for a year as a Construction Safety Officer.
Since then I have have been either a Safety Coordinator or Safety Manager for a environmental remediation company, a powerline installation company, a electrical installation company and a mechanical installation company.
Over the years I have acquired a world of knowledge and experience in mining, forestry, trucking and construction that has made me the safety professional that I am today.
I am a strong believer that all incidents are avoidable. I am glad that I am in a position where I can assist companies so that they may achieve their goal of zero incidents, maintain OHS compliance and protect their biggest asset, their workers.
